3. Health(Y) Tips Obesity
Obesity may be described as a bodily condition characterized by excessive deposition or storage of fat in adipose tissue. It usually results from consumption of food in excess of physiological needs.
Obesity can occur at any age in either sex. Its incidence is higher in persons who consume more food and lead sedentary leaves.
Among women, obesity is liable to occur after pregnancy & at menopause - A woman usually gains about 12 kgs weight during pregnancy. Part of this is an increase in the adipose tissue which serves as a store against the demands of lactation. Many women gain more & retain part of this weight.
Obesity is a serious health hazard as the extra fats puts a strain on the heart, kidneys and liver as well as the large weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees and ankles, which ultimately shortens the life span. It has been truly said, ‘ the longer the belt, the shorter the life‘. Overweight persons are susceptible to several diseases like coronary thrombosis, heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, gout and liver and gall-bladder disorders.
Causes
The chief cause of obesity, most often, is the intake of calories beyond the body’s energy requirement. Some people are habituated to eating too much while others may be in the habit of consuming high-calorie foods.
Persons who are generally bored, unhappy, lonely or unloved, those who are discontented with their families, or social or financial standing usually tend to overeat as eating is a pleasure and solace to them.
Treatment - Solutions…# 1
One sure method of reducing weight is by practicising what is known as "Fletcherism". He was 50 pounds overweight, contracted flu every six months and constantly complained of indigestion and a tired feeling. After a deep study, he made some important discoveries which are as follows:
1. Chew your food to a pulp or milky liquid until it practically swallows itself.
2. Never eat until hungry.
3. Enjoy every bite or morsel, savouring the flavour until it is swallowed.
4. Do not eat when tired, angry, worried, and at meal-time refuse to think or talk about unpleasant subjects.
Horace Fletcher followed these rules for 5 months. As a result he lost more than 60 pounds & felt better than he had for 20 years. A weight reducing programme built on Fletcherism works wonders and is worth a trial.

4. Inspiring Article on the Web "Coffee"
A good and interesting topic to avoid coffee
http://www.daylife.com/article/03zo2GIfFE4Ad/articles/all/1
Diabetes is a serious disorder and one step to control it is to avoid coffee … not just coffee without sugar as most prefer to do. Kindly share with your friends as diabetes is growing very fast in IT / ITES sector … due to lack of exercise, poor food schedule and stress. These days a lot of people in family have it and this little bit of advice can help people take a smarter step to control it.

5. Jokes corner
When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300°C.
The Russians used a pencil.
Moral: Many a times we spend a great deal of time, Money, energy looking for “Out of the Box” solutions while there might be a simple, easy solution right in front of us.

6. Safety
In continuation of Last weeks article on Smoking….Passive smoking is equally a big threat /killer to Non Smokers (Thanks Dev for the Feedback)
Research has generated scientific evidence that secondhand smoke causes the same problems as direct smoking, including heart disease, cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, and lung ailments such as COPD, bronchitis and asthma. Specifically, meta-analyses have shown lifelong non-smokers with partners who smoke in the home have a 20–30% greater risk of lung cancer, and those exposed to cigarette smoke in the workplace have an increased risk of 16–19%.
Smoking by either parent, increases the risk of asthma in children.

7. Thought for the Week
Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and
uncomfortable when you try something new. - Brian Tracy

(i) Words, (ii) Opportunity (iii) Time

Three things in Life that are never sure
(i) Dreams, ( ii) Success (iii) Fortune

Three things in life that make you a Great Person

9. Management Fundas "The Washer man & the Foolish Donkey"? Cool story, read till the end…

To refresh your memory, and for the benefit of those who have not grown up listening to this moral story, it goes like this…There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson. The donkey got worried & said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly. Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Moral of the story "One must not engage in duties other than his own"

Now take a new look at the same story…The washer man was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fund as of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet. The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a "meets requirement". Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around. The donkey was rated as "star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation…
Disclaimer: All characters in the story are not at all imaginary. Any resemblance to any person living or dying of work is purely intentional.
10. Trivia Best "Out of Office" replies
1) Thank you for your email. Your credit card has been charged $10.99 for the first ten words and $5.99 for each additional word in your message.

2) The e-mail server is unable to verify your server connection and is unable to deliver this message. Please restart your computer and try sending again. (The beauty of this is that when you return, you can see how many in-duh-viduals did this over and over).

3) Thank you for your message, which has been added to a queuing system. You are currently in 352nd place, and can expect to receive a reply in approximately 19 weeks.

11. Tip for the Week FORWARD E-MAIL APPROPRIATELY
->Ever get those e-mails that you have to open 10 pages to read the one page with the information on it? ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading -By this you stop them from having to open many e-mails just to see what you sent. These are the ones that often end up having picked up a virus from somebody. This is really important!
-> Have you ever gotten an email that is a petition? It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book. The email can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses.
A FACT: The completed petition is actually worth a couple of bucks to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained therein.
-> 'Send this email to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your screen.' Or, sometimes they'll just tease you by saying something really cute will happen. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!
-> Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the other ones floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them. Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for Years!

12. A Good….Movie to Watch
Well….from the current movies, a Good movie to watch with Family was "Santosh Subramanium" – was refreshingly different – the theme was strikingly good, it just said "Love Makes life Beautiful". Simple yet a powerful message!!!! The Original movie in Telugu was equally a big hit and people tell me that the Telugu version was even Better.
If you have not watched the movie…take time off to see this movie – it is worth it..and as the message in the Movie goes – Love makes life Beautiful – So Love thy Parents, Spouse, Children / Siblings and make the World a even a better place for all of us to live in

15. Closing thoughts
This weeks blog's closes with current "flavor of the Day" – IPL ..NO NO, I am not going to write about Cricket…but on Leadership. The 2 teams which reached the finals were not the best - in terms of Players or their Past record (No Sachin, Gilly, Viru or Ganguly or Dravid's)
But the 2 teams which reached the final had the 2 BEST captains in the trade…People who inspired their teams to "Perform better " and gel together as a team against much Stronger / famed rivals…Chennai Super Kings / Rajasthan Royals were not only on top of the table in terms of points, but also on top for the Fair Play award (Combination of 1)Respect for opponents 2) Spirit of the game 3) Team Spirit, etc.,)
So if we try and relate this to our Own office/ Homes, How different is the situation – the teams / families that do very well, are ones which work as a team pushing each other to higher performance & exhibit good team work – So what role are you playing in your Team as Members / as leaders to Push YOUR teams to Greater performances…..
