Chennai-Pattinam

Good Ol' Chennai is now "370" Years Old - Wow!! You like this city, You hate this city, but it still continues to be the "City of Fortune" and attracts a lot
Of people in search of the mysterious wealth – the city has grown in all directions and the borders are not known for this great city.

The population is around 40 Lakhs (conservatively?) and has a diverse mixture of Tamils, Telugus, Malayalees, Kannadigas, Marwaris, etc.,

We salute this great City and I am sure we would soon have a "Greater Chennai" and many more to come!!

Good Morning
Now that we had a good sleep (Read http://gud2gr8.blogspot.com/2009_08_16_archive.html),
let us see how we can make our mornings brighter

Morning are the foundation upon which the entire day is built - mentally, physically, and spiritually.
If You start the day by doing with some basic habits, You can be happier, healthier, more productive throughout the day.
In contrast, if your morning is chaotic and rushed. Invariably energy runs out later in the day and generally lot less gets done.

Here are Some morning habits that can provide you with a solid foundation to go about your entire day:

1. Wake Early: With more time, you are free to develop the habits listed and enjoy the morning free from the pressure of having to rush out the door.

2. Have a ‘”Holy Time”: The Famous personal development coach, Robin Sharma, advocates taking a “Holy Hour” each morning. Basically this is the time you devote to working on yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. If you do this, instead of turning on the computer or TV soon after you wake up, you will set yourself up for a great day.

3. Meditate: Meditation is the practice of silencing the mind, and the morning is a particularly good time to do it. Just a few of its many benefits include improved concentration, better health, and increased knowledge of self.

4. Visualize the Day Ahead: A simple, yet extremely powerful, exercise to practice in the morning is to shut your eyes and visualize how you want the day to unfold. This will give you direction as you go about your day and help you to avoid getting distracted with “urgent” but unimportant tasks.
Set 3 Most Important Things (MITs) for today : your MIT is the task you most want or need to get done today.

5. Read and/ or Listen to Motivational Material: This may sound cheesy, but one of the reasons I love the morning is that an entire day of endless possibilities lies ahead. One of the best ways to ignite this spirit of endless possibilities is to devour some motivational material, be it in the form of a book, audio.

6. Think the Impossible: Since we are on the subject of endless possibilities, Allow your mind to let go of the rational and, instead, to explore the world of the “impossible” is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. And Aristotle did once say that the mark of an educated or mature mind is that it’s able to “entertain a thought
without accepting it.”

7. Eat a Nutritious Breakfast: A nutritious and balanced breakfast is essential if you want to fire up your metabolism and keep yourself powered up throughout your day.

8. Exercise: There are immense benefits to exercising in the morning. First, it raises your metabolism which helps to burn calories all day.
Second, it starts the day with a positive accomplishment. It is great to carry this momentum into the day.

9. Sharpen Your Brain: Exercising your brain is as important (if not more!) than exercising your muscles. Some fun activities to keep your mind sharp include Sudoku, crosswords, or brain teasers.

10. Take Time to Look Good: It’s a fact of life that people judge us by our appearance. For this reason, it’s a good idea to spend a few extra minutes in the morning to ensure you go out into the
world looking the best you can.
A recent study found “extra time spent grooming has a positive and significant effect on both men’s and women’s earnings”. This was found to be especially true for men, where “10 minutes daily grooming increases their weekly wages by 6 percent”. Just remember, though, at some point you will need to put your pants on and get on with your day…..

Thought for the Day
Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right.
To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to be with them. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Arguments with spouse key for longer health

The next time you have a row with your spouse make sure to vent your anger, for a new study has suggested that a fight may be good for a couple’s health.
The study, led by Ernest Harburg, professor emeritus with the U-M School of Public Health and the Psychology Department, stated that couples in which both the husband and wife suppress their anger when one attacks the other, die earlier than the members of couples, where one or both partners express their anger and resolve the conflict.
In the study, the researchers followed 192 couples over 17 years and placed the couples into one of four categories: both partners communicate their anger; in the second and third groups one spouse expresses while the other suppresses; and both the husband and wife suppress their anger and brood.

When both spouses suppress their anger at the other when unfairly attacked, earlier death was twice as likely than in all other types.
"When couples get together, one of their main jobs is reconciliation about conflict," Harburg said.
"Usually nobody is trained to do this. If they have good parents, they can imitate, that's fine, but usually the couple is ignorant about the process of resolving conflict. The key matter is, when the conflict happens, how do you resolve it?"
"When you don't, if you bury your anger, and you brood on it and you resent the other person or the attacker, and you don't try to resolve the problem, then you're in trouble,” he added.

Carnegie Success Tip

“Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” - Dale Carnegie

No single action conveys the message "you're important" as effectively as remembering another person's name.

Here are some steps you might take to help ensure name recollection:

* Hear and understand the name
* Create a mind picture linking the name with the person
* Add details about the person to the mind picture
* Repeat the name in conversation
