Good to Great # 40, Being Organised..

The Seed that I want to sow for this week is "Being Organised" – early in my career, I was one of THE most organised persons around – of late I realise that I have a bit of work to do on this front…

To me Planning & Organising (Or being organised) seem to overlap a lot and are interlinked – when YOU plan, you are better organised….Would really help you to achieve much more, because you do not miss an key appointment or an important document, keys, a pen drive and spend hours searching for it – ((me and my wife are trying to locate a pen drive for the past 15 days) - true isn't it

So I have taken the task on myself to be better organised – consciously doing small things that would make me a really organised person, over the next few weeks. Here are some Basic (But different) tips that you can use!!!

- Take one thing at a time: As you begin to organise, set realistic objective and goals. Start with an area which you want organised first

- Shop effectively: Plan BEFORE you go to shop, clearly list things to buy and shop only for items that you want to buy. This will clearly help you to plan your shopping, go to the right shop, and buy only what you need – clearly saves time, and MONEY

- Keep a writing pad: to jot down phone numbers or key tasks that comes to your mind, or things you need to buy or bills that you need to pay. This would help to constantly see things visually thereby ensuring adequate attention.

- Use unavoidable waiting time productively: (My favourite!!) – be it at the Doctors place or railway stations, travel time (Train, plane, commuting to work)use this time more productively – carry a long pending reading material like a story book, office assignment, a newspaper, make pending phone calls – parents, spouse or friend, etc.,

Will share more tips in future editions and I am sure each of us can be a little more productive by following these tips.

So Friends, here comes a Good to Great Edition # 40… Please read in Leisure and you can reach me @ balajineela@gmail.com , for any comments, suggestions, contributions of articles or questions. I do love to hear from each of you.

1. Its all about YOU…A Calm Mind

Don't give your mind permission to get disturbed. A disturbed mind is easily influenced. This will cost you your peace.

Learn to maintain your peace by freeing yourself from attachments. Competing or comparing yourself with others will not allow you to focus inwards. An inner focus allows you to keep your eye on your higher self.

Remember your original nature. It allows you to forge a link with the Divine. Then it becomes easy to recognise useless thoughts and replace them with a spiritual perspective. A calm mind is not just peaceful, it is focused, self-directing and Divine.

2. Thought for this week

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with

the intent of throwing it at someone else;
you are the one who gets bURNED

4. Management quick tips..

Have you ever heard a Rose saying ‘I want to be as white as Moon or Moon saying ‘I want to be as red as Rose’?

Certainly not. Then why we human beings compare our success and failures with others.

If Rose is beautiful then Moon is also beautiful. They never compared each other. Success is not determined by how we are doing compared with others, but by how we are doing compared with what we are capable of doing. Rose is a Rose and Moon is a Moon.

You may be a little lamp and others may be the great sun. Remember a little lamp can shine in the night, but the great sun cannot.

5. Jokes corner..

Never Argue With Kids

My 4 year old son came screaming out of the bathroom to tell me he'd dropped his toothbrush in the toilet. So I fished it out and threw it in the garbage.
He stood there thinking for a moment, then ran to my bathroom and came out with my toothbrush.

He held it up and said with a charming little smile, "We better throw this one out too then, 'cause it fell in the toilet a few days ago.

Clean Breath for Love

Lalu Pundit was reading a book of eternal truth.
He told his wife Pyari, "Do you know that every time I breathe a man dies?"
Pyari advised, "Why don't you use a mouth wash?"

6. Management thoughts

Monica married Hitesh this day. At the end of the wedding party, Monica's mother gave her a newly opened bank saving passbook with Rs.1000 deposit amount.

Mother: 'Monica, take this passbook. Keep it as a record of your marriage life. When there's something happy and memorable happened in your new life, put some money in. Write down what it's about next to the line. The more memorable the event is, the more money you can put in. I've done the first one for you today. Do the others with Hitesh. When you look back after years, you can know how much happiness you've had.'

Monica shared this with Hitesh when getting home. They both thought it was a great idea and were anxious to know when the second deposit can be made. This was what they did after certain time:

- 7 Feb: Rs.100, first birthday celebration for Hitesh after marriage
- 1 Mar: Rs.300, salary raise for Monica
- 20 Mar: Rs.200, vacation trip to Bali
- 15 Apr: Rs.2000, Monica got pregnant
- 1 Jun: Rs.1000, Hitesh got promoted
..... and so on...

However, after years, they started fighting and arguing for trivial things. They didn't talk much. They regretted that they had married the most nasty people in the world.... no more love...Kind of typical nowadays, huh?

One day Monica talked to her Mother: 'Mom, we can't stand it anymore. We agree to divorce. I can't imagine how I decided to marry this guy!!!'

Mother: 'Sure, girl, that's no big deal. Just do whatever you want if you really can't stand it. But before that, do one thing first. Remember the saving passbook I gave you on your wedding day? Take out all money and spend it first. You shouldn't keep any record of such a poor marriage.'

Monica thought it was true. So she went to the bank, waiting at the queue and planning to cancel the account.

While she was waiting, she took a look at the passbook record. She looked, and looked, and looked. Then the memory of all the previous joy and happiness just came up her mind. Her eyes were then filled with tears. She left and went home.

When she was home, she handed the passbook to Hitesh, asked him to spend the money before getting divorce.

The next day, Hitesh gave the passbook back to Monica. She found a new deposit of Rs.5000. And a line next to the record: 'This is the day I notice how much I've loved you thru out all these years. How much happiness you've brought me.'

They hugged and cried, putting the passbook back to the safe.

Do you know how much money they had saved when they retired? I did not ask. I believe the money did not matter any more after they had gone thru all the good years in their life.

"When you fall, in any way, Don't see the place where you fell,
Instead see the place from where you slipped.

Life is about correcting mistakes."

8. Parenting - Home - A Prepared Environment

"In his early explorations of his environment, the child is seeking independence through mastering his surroundings. It is up to the parent to permit the necessary explorations and also to arrange the environment so the child can learn to do things for himself."

In addition to assisting children gain independence, the following suggestions help children gain self-control, acquire a healthy self-image and provide opportunities for adults and children to spend time together. These activities all take the adult's time and patience in the beginning but are worth it!

# 1: Household - "Look at your home through your child's eyes."

- lower hooks, hangers, handles, etc wherever possible
- place stools wherever possible
- provide adequate, easily accessible spaces for all belongings
- a place for everything and everything in its place

9. Amazing Video…Real Slumdog millionaire..

Here's a real slumdog who should be a millionaire! A street kid in Bombay who sells peacock feathers to tourists - in their
language!!! French, Italian, German, Arabic, Japanese . . .!

Quite astonishing Worth a watch. Read through the commentary – the original video was taken when the kid was 12 years old – after the movie was released, people went to check back – now 15 years old, he still continues to dazzle
