Hi, Everyone. Here's a fun new motto I came across from America's Leading motivational Guru Zig Zagler 's son - that each of us and our team's / Families / Friends can use as a reminder to stay focused on the fundamentals of being valuable at work.

It's called Smile & Move (there are 5 ways to smile, 4 ways to move).

A great message for a challenging time, I hope you enjoy it. Clearly these challenging times brings the best out of us – voluntarily or involuntarily. Each of us – Corporate or individually would have taken a number of actions to face this current economic situation.

This is going to make us come out stronger at the end of the downturn.
The other side to this is that many times we might have to face situations that are more challenging – tougher negotiations (the opposite party is also in the same economic crisis boat), frayed tempers (higher than usual), etc.,

So especially during these tougher times, face things more positively, smile and move on….You will definitely feel that you are able to face things more easily and solutions seem to appear on the horizon faster….
Oh…did I mention…it is good for your heart too..!!!

So, Let's smove (smile & move)...

Hi Friends, Here comes a Special Edition 46 of Good to Great… please read in Leisure and continue to share your articles, jokes, puzzles, feedback to balajineela@gmail.com

2. Thought for this week

" When one door of happiness closes, another opens;
but often we look so long at the closed door that
we do not see the one that has been opened for us"
-------

How many times we have given up our ideas just because someone has criticized it or laughed at it. Whatever you do you are going to be criticized. Even if you don’t do anything you will be criticized.

Criticism is the easiest job in this world and everybody is an expert in criticizing. But people with positive attitude take criticism in a good spirit and keep moving in their life no matter where it comes from.

3. Health….Yoga..Dhanura-asana

********Dhanura-asana - The Bow Pose *************

Translation: The Sanskrit word dhanur means bow-shaped, curved or bent. The bow referred is a bow as in "bow and arrow." This asana is so named because the body mimics the shape of a bow with its string stretched back ready to shoot an arrow.

Instructions:
1. Lie flat on the back in the shava-asana (corpse pose).
2. Lie on the stomach with the head turned to one side and the arms alongside the body with palms facing upward.
3. Turn the head and place the chin on the floor. Exhale, bend the knees, reach back with the arms and grasp the right ankle with the right hand and the left ankle with the left hand.
4. While inhaling, slowly raise the legs by pulling the ankles up and raising the knees off the floor while simultaneously lifting the chest off the floor. Hold the inhale breath. The weight of the body should be resting on the abdomen.
5. Tilt the head as far back as possible. Hold the posture as long as you can comfortably hold the inhale breath.
6. Slowly exhale bringing the knees to the floor, release the ankles, slowly bring the legs and arms straight down on the floor and turn the head to one side, assuming the prone posture you began with.

Comments: The most obvious benefit of the dhanur-asana is that it restores flexibility to the spine. Regular practice will relieve lower back pain and release tension and strain in the upper back and neck area. The alternating stretching and releasing of the abdominal muscles increases blood flow to this area and aids all sorts of digestive disorders and discomforts. Strain or fatigue in the legs is also released after a few repetitions. Extended practice will help develop upper-body strength.

Duration/Repetitions:
The dhanur-asana is either held for the duration of the inhaled or between one and three minutes while breathing gently through the nostrils. Repeat it two or three times.

The two variations of the dhanur-asana have to do with the method of breathing and the amount of arch of the back. As one progresses with this asana and is able to hold the posture for a longer period of time, the posture can be held while slow, rhythmic breathing is maintained through the nostrils. As the spine becomes more flexible try drawing the feet closer to the head. Some are able to join the top of the head to the soles of the feet although this is certainly not necessary to accomplish the dhanur-asana.

Something that my mother taught me when I was in my teenages…liked it and did it often then…will start practising it again now!!

6. Management thoughts..The Ant

A Fable……….or maybe not!!

Every day, a small ant arrives at work very early and starts work immediately. She produces a lot and she was happy. The Chief, a lion, was surprised to see that the ant was working without supervision. He thought if the ant can produce so much without supervision, wouldn’t she produce even more if she had a supervisor!

So he recruited a cockroach who had extensive experience as supervisor and who was famous for writing excellent reports. The cockroach’s first decision was to set up a clocking in attendance system. He also needed a secretary to help him write and type his reports and …... he recruited a spider, who managed the archives and monitored all phone calls.

The lion was delighted with the cockroach's reports & asked him to produce graphs to describe production rates & to analyse trends, so that he could use them for presentations at Board‘s meetings.
So the cockroach had to buy a new computer and a laser printer and ... ... recruited a fly
to manage the IT department. The ant, who had once been so productive and relaxed, hated this new plethora of paperwork and meetings which used up most of her time…!
The lion came to the conclusion that it was high time to nominate a person in charge of the department where the ant worked. The position was given to the cicada, whose first decision was to buy a carpet and an ergonomic chair for his office.
The new person in charge, the cicada, also needed a computer and a personal assistant ,who he brought from his previous department, to help him prepare a Work and Budget Control Strategic Optimisation Plan …
The Department where the ant works is now a sad place, where nobody laughs anymore and everybody has become upset... It was at that time that the cicada convinced the boss , the lion, of the absolute necessity to start a climatic study of the environment.
Having reviewed the charges for running the ant’s department , the lion found out that the production was much less than before. So he recruited the owl , a prestigious and renowned consultant to carry out an audit and suggest solutions. The owl spent three months in the department and came up with an enormous report , in several volumes, that concluded :
“ The department is overstaffed ...” Guess who the lion fires first?
The ant , of course, because she “showed lack of motivation and had a negative attitude".

NB: The characters in this fable are fictitious; any resemblance toreal people or facts within the Corporation is pure coincidence…

7. Parenting - Whom to blame

A Boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a Loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle Open.
He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep It in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by Its colour and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine Meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband. When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, He looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS:
1. What were the five words?
2. What is the implication of this story?

ANSWER :

The husband just said "I am with you Darling"
The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behaviour. The Child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point In finding fault with the mother. Besides, if only he had taken time to Keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.

No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world.
"A journey of a thousand miles Begins with a single step."
Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are Actually not as difficult as you think.

8. Cartoons.. Shortcuts to success

Yoga: It takes 8 years of practice to do this Asana.

Beer - asana: It takes only 8 pegs or 8 pints for doing the same.
Just a quicker way.

9. Special Message – Earth Hour!!

VOTE EARTH YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from.

VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.
THIS SATURDAY AT 8.30PM YOU CAN VOTE EARTH BY SWITCHING OFF YOUR LIGHTS FOR ONE HOUR - EARTH HOUR
