3. Lateral thinking

A classical thinking puzzle….

There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building. Everyday he gets the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the building to go to work.Upon returning from work though, he can only travel half way up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way unless it's raining! Why?

4. Management quick tips..Leading by Example

A troubled mother took her daughter to see Gandhi, who was re-owned for his spiritual discipline. Apparently the small girl was addicted to sweets and the mother wanted Gandhi to speak to her about this unhealthy habit and convince her to drop it.
On hearing the request, Gandhi told the mother, " Bring the girl back to me in 3 weeks and I will speak to her then"

Just as she had been advised, the mother brought the daughter – As promised, Gandhi spoke to the small girl, about the detrimental effects of eating too many sweets. He adviced her to give it up!!

The mother was thankful, but was surprised – "Why did you not speak to my daughter when I first came to you?" Gandhi replied – 'My good woman, 3 weeks back I was also addicted to sweets'

5. Jokes corner

A disappointed salesman of Pepsi returns from his Middle East assignment. A friend asked, "Why weren't you successful with the Arabs?"
The salesman explained, "When I got posted in the Middle East, I was very confident that I will make a good sales pitch as Pepsi is virtually unknown there. But, I had a problem I didn't know to speak Arabic. So, I planned to convey the message through 3 posters...
First poster, a man crawling through the hot desert sand... totally exhausted and panting.
Second, the man is drinking our Pepsi and
Third, our man is now totally refreshed.

Then these posters were pasted all over the place" "That should have worked," said the friend.
The salesman replied, "Well, not only did I not speak Arabic, I also didn't realize that Arabs read from right to left..."

6. Management thoughts..Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare &serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Most importantly..................
"Work like you don't need the money,
love like you've never been hurt, and
dance like you do when nobody's watching."

7. Inspiring Olympics..
Thanks Prabhakar for pushing me to write on Our very own Abinav Bindra….the best is reserved for the last!!!

Abhinav Bindra (born September 28, 1982) is the Indian shooter from Zirakpur, Mohali, Punjab and is the current World and Olympic champion in the 10 m Air Rifle event. By winning the gold in the 10 m Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games and India's first gold medal since 1980, when the Men's Field Hockey Team won the gold.

This is Very Proud Moment For India . Every Indian salutes this 25yr old Man.

So what does this medal mean to us….it gives hope and faith that we (India) too can win a Individual gold medal. Also it would inspire so many more young people to take up sports other than Cricket …and of course move the sponsorship money to other games, which would definitely produce Great results for the country in a number of sports over the years to come…
Answers to lateral thinking puzzle
The man is very, very short and can only reach halfway up the elevator buttons. However,if it is raining then he will have his umbrella with him and can press the higher buttons with it.

8. Tip for this week…. Excel tip…Add a Drop-Down List

Simple tip with multiple uses…helps error proofing (read mistake avoiding)

Inserting a drop-down list to a cell is a slick trick that can add a touch of professionalism to your worksheets--and also ensure that erroneous data is not entered into the cell. And best of all: Macros are not required!

Assume that you have an input cell in which the user is supposed to enter a month name: January, February, and so on. Here's how to add a drop-down list to that cell to make data entry a breeze--and save some keystrokes.

Enter the items for your drop-down list into a list on the worksheet, one item per cell. In this example, I'll assume that the month names start in cell E1 and extend down to E12, but they can be in any out-of-the-way location on the worksheet. In Excel terminology, a rectangular group of cells (such as E1 to E12) is called a range.

Select the cell that will contain the drop-down list. If you'd like more than one cell to display the same list, just select them all now rather than setting them up one at a time. (Click and drag to select a range; hold down Ctrl while you click to select non-adjacent cells.)

Choose Data, Validation to display the Data Validation dialog box.

Click the Settings tab.

In the Allow field, select List.

In the Source field, specify the range that contains the list items. In this example, the items are in cells E1 to E12, so type =E1:E12 into the field.

Click OK. Your List is ready to go!!

9. Friends..... Friends Forever!

It takes a minute to have a crush on someone,
A hour to like someone,
& a day to fall in love with someone,
but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

10.Special Theme…Teachers Day.…..A Teacher for All Seasons

We have teachers all through our lives…At school, at home, at office, when we travel…life goes on teaching us various lessons through various people…here is a small dedication to Thank all these special people who touched our lives and taught us so many things….

A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.
A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.
A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.
A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.
Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!
