1. Its all about YOU (S&H)

"Find the good. It's all around YOU.
Find it, Showcase it and YOU will start believing in it"
Jesse Owens, 1913-1980, Gold Medal Olympic Track Athlete

"The way you look at things changes the way things look."

It sometimes seems impossible to see,

I do honestly believe there is, indeed,
a good side to everything.

It's all in the way one looks at it.

2. Thought for this week (S&H)

When the master governs, People are hardly aware that he exists
Next Best is a Leader who is loved,
Next, One who is Feared
The worst is one who is despised

- From a 2,500 year old Chinese text

3. Psychology.. Take this test to know your …from the FM radio (S&H)

If you were to choose between one of the following, what is the first shape that comes to your mind
Circle , Rectangle, Square, Triangle

Once you have decided the shape, move on to end of Management thoughts to know your character / personality..

4. Lateral thinking..How to see problems

Problems are very common like common cold in any job. The virus, make you to think more than usual, until you get rid of them or a better satisfying solution is reached. Some issues can make you gloomy, raise the temper, the spill over effect being carried to family/co-staffs etc.

On Optimistic side, we no more call it problems, but term it as "Challenges".(remove the virus) It sounds better and energetic. Mostly, it is said logical thinking can challenge the "Challenges".

Read this small story about tackling issues.

Many years ago in a small Indian village, a farmer had the misfortune Of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender.
The Moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful Daughter. So he proposed a bargainHe said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his Daughter.
Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the Proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let Providence decide the matter.

He told them that he would put a black Pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.
1) If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven.
2) If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven.
3) But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into Jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two Black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.

Now, imagine that you were standing in the field. What would you have done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you have told her? Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:
1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.
2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag & expose the money-lender as a cheat
3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order To save her father from his debt and imprisonment.
Take a moment to ponder over the story.

The above story is used with the hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral And logical thinking.
The girl's dilemma cannot be solved with Traditional logical thinking. Think of the consequences if she choosesThe above logical answers. What would you recommend to the Girl to do? Well, think about it….check your answers against a different solution at the end of the edition.

5. Management quick tips..To get a promotion?

Tip No.577 - Show them the numbers

When you make your pitch about what a great job you’ve been doing and your value to the company, it will help your case if you can show your employer or supervisor specific results.
Prepare documentation showing how and how much your brilliant ideas have helped them. This can be especially useful in the common scenario in which the person you’re dealing with doesn’t have the power to grant you a promotion. If that person has to fight on your behalf with his or her boss, you had better provide the best ammunition you can.

6. Jokes corner..The loving couple

A couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica .
Their domestic tranquillity had long been the talk of the town. "What a peaceful & loving couple".

The local newspaper reporter was inquiring as to the secret of their long and happy marriage."Well, it dates back to our honeymoon in America," explained the man.

"We visited the Grand Canyon in Arizona and took a trip down to the bottom of the canyon by horse. We hadn't gone too far when my wife's horse stumbled and she almost fell off. My wife looked down at the horse and quietly said, "That's once."
"We proceeded a little further and the horse stumbled again, this time causing her to drop her water. Once more my wife quietly said, "That's twice."
We hadn't gone a half-mile when the horse stumbled for a third time. My wife quietly removed a revolver from her purse and shot the horse dead.

I shouted at her, "What's wrong with you, Woman! Why did you shoot the poor animal like that? Are you crazy??" She looked at me, and quietly said, "That's once.""And from that moment... we have lived happily ever after." :-)

7. Management thoughts.. Socrates' Triple Filter Test? (S&H)

One of my favourites….try to practice this regularly..why don’t you try it out?

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about your friend?"
"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test.

It's called the Triple Filter Test." "Triple filter?"
"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say.

The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not.

Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?" "No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true.
You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness.

Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"
"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

If only each of us would use this triple filter test when someone comes to us with a juicy bit of gossip, it certainly would stop gossip right in its tracks.

9. Tip for this week…. Eating..The right way!!! (S&H)

"Eat breakfast like a prince, lunch like a king and dinner like a pauper"

Breakfast – As the term says, it is to 'Break-the- fast'
Breakfast is supposed to be the energy meal. It boosts our energy right? Eat small portions of nutrient-rich food to improve your mood, outlook and metabolism.

Lunch - the best way to eat is to have a HUGE lunch.. so you can work it off during the day and it gives you the energy to get through the day)

Dinner - A small-medium size dinner at a later time such as 7-9ish... (so you don't have a lot to digest at night time while you sleep and your not weighed down). Eating your smallest meal in the evening before bed keep those extra pounds from sitting there turning to fat over night... Since I know my metabolism has slowed down already..

10. Friends…

Who said "Open" n "Close"
are words with opposite Meaning

You will always be open to the person
who is close to you.

Answer to Lateral thinking puzzle…

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble.

Without Looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles."Oh, how clumsy of me," she said. "But never mind, if you look into the Bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I Picked.

"Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had Picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his Dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into an extremely advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Most complex problems do have a solution. It is only that we should think differently.

11. Closing thoughts… (S&H)

One of my colleagues is sometimes ragged on her self Consciousness…on how she takes that extra care to see to it that she is properly dressed or how her face looks ; her answer was so simple and straight forward and it really touched me…

She said – 'I have to be presentable to myself first..when I look at the mirror, I have to look at a person, I like to see..'

Wow…..never mind what the world says…..Be truthful to Yourself…and I am sure You would lead a much more happy life.

Cheers!!!
