Positive reinforcements and the sub conscious mind

Ok, this week I would be sharing with you a small, but a nice handy tool that I developed ("Subconscious Re-inforcer")

The logic behind this tool is to send constant reinforces / stimulus to our mind on qualities that we would like to ingrain into our system.

A kindergarten teacher would talk about is the power of "repetitiveness". Constant repetition would help the sub conscious mind to be aware or conscious of the habit that we are trying to adopt.

Before I share the tool, let us briefly refresh our knowledge of Positive reinforcement and Sub conscious mind.

Positive reinforcement (From the web)

Positive reinforcement is a key concept in behavior analysis, a field within psychology. Positive reinforcers are something like rewards, or things we will generally work to get. However, the definition of a positive reinforcement is more precise than that of reward. Specifically, we can say that positive reinforcement has occurred when three conditions have been met:

# A consequence is presented dependent on a behavior.
# The behavior becomes more likely to occur.
# The behavior becomes more likely to occur because and only because the consequence is presented dependent on the behavior.

The Importance of an Increase in the Level of the Behavior

Example of positive reinforcement of smiling:
Stephan and Cody were two mentally disabled boys who seldom smiled at other people. Dr. Hopkins used a procedure in which he would take them for walks, and if they smiled at passers by, he would give them some pieces of M & M's candy. This procedure caused Stephan and Cody to smile much more often than they had before.

Analysis: This is an example of positive reinforcement.

First, a consequence was presented dependent upon the target behavior. The candy was dependent on smiling because there was an if-then relationship between smiling and candy: If smiling occurred, candy was presented; but if no smiling occurred, no candy was presented.
Second, there was an increase in the level of smiling.
Third, the increase in the level of smiling was due to the relationship between smiling and candy.

The Subconscious mind

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. -Napoleon Hill

The basic principle is that whatever your mind can imagine... it can create. How does your mind do this? What your mind thinks, sees, believes, feels is all sent to your subconscious mind -- it's great partner, the real power within you.

Your Subconscious Mind then works with the universe and creates your reality based on the messages that began in your mind. But its not enough to simply imagine it and then hope it happens. That's not the way it works. If you can imagine it you can achieve it -- but you need to know how to use the power of your mind and subconscious mind.

Your mind can create wonderful things for you -- if you know how to use that power and how to send the right messages to your subconscious.

Did you know that doctors now firmly believe that 75% of all sickness and disease start in the mind? 75-Percent! That's a very large amount. Doctors will even tell you that most sickness and disease are caused by stress - which starts in the mind.

Scientists have long said that we only use 10% of our mind power. 10-percent -- that's it. Think of going through life only spending 10-percent of your salary? Could you do it? No!

Your mind is an incredible power -- What would happen if we learned to use 90% of our mind's power correctly? Imagine if we could properly direct our subconscious mind? The results would be astounding!

The New tool - "Subconscious Re-inforcer"

Since Positive reinforces increase in the future frequency of a behavior due to the addition of a stimulus, we are going to send stimulus periodically to our sub conscious mind.

Here is a sample:

Logics:
What our vision or goal is at the center, so that we stay focused on this continuously. Could be on your official or personal life
(Become a Manager, be a good father or mother, become a Millionaire, etc)

The good habits or the reinforcers are all around as they help you to achieve your vision.
The intent is to have this at a convenient place so that we look or state at this everyday – this would help us to focus / re-enforce and constantly send a stimuli to our brain.

Suggested recommendations

Write ideas that you want to keep re-inforcing to yourself
E.g. could be healthy Habits that you want to accomplish
Write ONLY positive reinforcements
E.g. Smile more, talk positively, be a driver, etc.,
Corollary - Avoid Non positive comments (read that as "Avoid Negative comments")
E.g. No Smoking, Don’t get angry
(The mind has to un-do the negative message and convert that to a positive instead try writing the positive way, your mind has to just take it in..)

How to make it effective
- Do it Now!!! Complete the tool
- Keep it at a place which you will access periodically – purse, shelf, office drawer – all of which you will open once a day at the least.
- It is your own tool, so preferable to have it for your view only - not at a public place

Design and color significance:

Just a free flow of the mind – something pleasant to look at; so you can create your own design or use this blank template.

Well I tried it out – seems cool and it really works, Would encourage each of you to positively have your own "Subconscious Re-inforcer" that would help YOU to achieve more in life

Cheers

DETERMINATON B/f Sriram
Was very impressed with this story, Amazing persistence, Vision and of course determination – also tells you what faith can do (Move mountains – literally) – true story, cross verified in wiki (minor variations on events, but the essence is correctly captured)

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.
Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.
"We told them so." "Crazy men and their crazy dreams." "It`s foolish to chase wild visions."

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.
He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.
It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.
For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.
Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.
Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.
Even the most distant dream can be realized with determination and persistence

So here she is – on her Birthday

Hmmm, On a different note and on a different day, I completed 12 years with Ford - …time does fly – Just now heard this dialogue somewhere ;-)
